Do you think Griffin Cannings more slider heavy approach is tenable? Or you think hitters can just sit on his fastball and hammer it since that is one of his more hittable pitches? Also the data is pretty early but it looks like his changeup which was good the previous years, is worse this year even though it has more drop, stuff+ models say it is also better, this one is more of an oddity to me.
I think the slider usage is going to stick and will work, yep. It's a good enough shape and he's always commanded it super well.
Righty changeup looks fine. Lefy changeup swing-miss is kind of gone, yeah. He's in zone with the pitch a lot more, I think that's gotta be playing into this reduction in whiff somehow? But it's on the ground so much I don't think I'm too worried, he's just lost a little whiff on it and is trying to make up for that with the slider
Unrelated, but does anyone know why Glasnow stuff is down? Is he a slow starter/ramp up guy or is this a conscious effort to lower his stuff to limit injury risk? Or are we just seeing the aging curve take effect?
I don't think it's conscious. Stuff+ has him down across the board. And now we have some lower leg cramping stuff, which is odd. He just can't stay healthy, it's really unfortunate, cause he's so electric when he's on the mound.
