A surprise for paid subs! Might make these monthly like my MiLB pitcher notes if they’re received well. I’m a pitching guy, but it’s valuable to jump over to other side and dig around. I don’t often do so on young hitters like this. After reading my work, I found myself being overly critical in certain spots, but perhaps that’s good from an analysis standpoint.
To kick this off, here is a grid on how these stats age. It should help with performance contextualization and some of the underlying metrics.
I’ve found that whiff, air-pull percentage, zone contact and chase don’t change level to level or based on age. Pitchers get better and improve command as they ascend and age, however. Maintaining the stats I just mentioned becomes more difficult against better pitchers, and there’s likely an element of survivorship bias.
