Bryce Miller's Velocity is Back. Kyle Bradish Rebound?

• Bryce Miller returned from the IL after a strained oblique delayed the start of his season (5.1 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, BB, 3 K). His four-seamer sat 97.6 mph, up a hefty 3 mph from 2025. He averaged 98.7 mph in the first inning before falling back to 97 and holding it into the 6th, a very encouraging sign. It’s the hardest average four-seamer he’s had in a game in his career. Even if he gives back some velocity after this outing, sitting ~96.5 mph would be a notable improvement from prior years. An overall note is that Miller threw more breaking balls than last year. He threw his short slider 25% to the handful of lefties he faced, backing off his curveball. He also threw 18% sweeper to righties, a pitch he pulled back to 7% last season.

  • Miller’s trajectory over the last few seasons has been interesting. He debuted in 2023 with a heavy four-seam and slider combo before progressively backing off both of those shapes in favor of more sinkers and splitters. The glimpse we now have of him this year suggests some reversion back to his old breaking ball habits, which I like, especially with his added velocity.
